Just finished the Dead Money DLC of Fallout: New Vegas in a single sitting. This is after me completing the Old World Blues DLC.
Here are my thoughts (Obviously some minor spoilers):WOW this DLC was unexpectedly dark! Sure the Fallout universe had some pretty messed up moments and finding three skellingtons, two adult one child, embracing in a bed surrounded by drugs is pretty sad but. The Sierra Madre Grand Casino and it's Villa were. Massively fucked up.In OWB I was like 'har har silly sci-fi hijinks happening in the Big MT' but here this place was actually horrifying, making it even more so after discovering the think tank was behind it all. From the lonely and immortal holograms either just standing there staring at empty space in the Villa or becoming aggressive when you entered their cone of sight, to the horrific inhabitants of that dead town, this DLC was thoroughly unnerving.
Its a great DLC but so much of it can punish a casual fallout player beyond what anything in Bethesda's version of the series ever has. It rewards patience, timing, and observation, expecting that most people just want to blast through it like they do in the Mojave, or even in most of the Capital Wasteland.
The ghost people are super weird opponents even though they only come in 3 types, but you can find yourself in situations where any one of them could bring you down, especially if you play on Hardcore and a higher-than-Normal difficulty. It is the ONLY part of either 3 or NV that favors Unarmed builds, though Guns is easy enough if you have 75 Science to get to the.357 Magnum Vendor Holotape. The point is that you are supposed to consider the consequences of being a badass treasure hunter as you cut down your allies and ultimately can't get more than a fraction of the loot out safely (well, you can get all 37 out easily, but most people don't figure out how on their own. I didn't).Its way better than Honest Hearts, even though Randall's diary is a great story.

Lonesome Road is just not dangerous enough to justify all the hype that the other DLC's give it, Old World Blues is funny and engaging but due to its nature it feels more like Half Life than Fallout.Dead Money's atmosphere would make the best solo game. Laburnum wood for sale. A cruel, brutal world that leaves no margin for error, punishes boldness with swift death, and at the end what you were fighting for is not something you can actually get.
Yeah, I am guns only and had no problem on my last playthrough. I didn't have to buy ammo for quite a while, and when I found the automatic rifle I was golden, but the police pistol hits hard too.Dean is a great companion, actually. Ranged attacks so he doesn't run into danger like Dog, and you just need to dismember the ghost hunter once he takes it down. I did the whole first part with him, scoured the villa for resources and codes and the other two companions (sending them to the fountain on their own), and then the rest was a piece of cake. I really enjoyed the storyline of the dead money. The atmosphere and the world building were near perfect. The companions are a little one dimensional but a lot of npcs are.

I loved reading the story and exploring the dialog options. My biggest problems are the mechanics. Memorization isn't good game design. An unfair death sucks. It's trial and error until you find the radio or a safe spot.On a blind play through its impossible to not die.

You need to know where those radios are located or you die. The radios absolutely killed any fun I got from.
