. Pros144Hz native refresh rate. Support for AMD FreeSync. Fast pixel response.

Fully adjustable stand. ConsLow contrast ratio. No HDR support. Typical TN-panel fading at extreme off-center angles. Lacks DisplayPort cable. Bottom LineThe Dell 27 Gaming Monitor (S2719DGF) is a pure play for PC gamers and esports types, providing a very high refresh rate and snappy pixel response that will satisfy those buyers. It lacks HDR support, however, and isn't ideal for video watching. You don't need to spend a couple of grand on a high-performance like the Editors' Choice to gain a good gaming experience.

More modestly priced displays like the $529 Dell 27 Gaming Monitor (S2719DGF) can get the job done, although you will be faced with a few compromises. While the S2719DGF has a native 144Hz refresh rate, a mere 1-millisecond pixel response, and support for AMD FreeSync adaptive-sync technology, it lacks HDR support and has a relatively low contrast ratio. Although the S2719DGF can be used for casual video watching, HDR-enabled entertainment monitors provide a brighter image with better contrast and dynamic range. The S2719DGF works best as a pure play on gaming for esports hounds seeking the highest possible refresh rate with low-impact, undemanding competitive games.A TN Panel With Lots of Flex.

The panel has a very narrow bezel (0.25 inch) on the top and sides, which helps to maximize the screen area and makes it highly suitable for multi-monitor arrays, with little border between the screens. The bottom bezel is half an inch thick. The mount is simple yet sturdy, with a wide range of adjustments. You get 5 inches of height adjustment, 26 degrees of tilt adjustment (from 5 degrees down to 21 degrees up), 90 degrees of swivel adjustment (45 degrees in either direction), and pivot adjustment from landscape to portrait mode and back, in either direction.

Including the stand, the S2719DGF measures 15.5 by 24.1 by 7.3 inches, and it weighs 20.3 pounds. The 27-inch panel uses twisted nematic (TN) technology, and the native resolution is 2,560 by 1,440 pixels (also known as WQHD). This resolution gives a higher pixel density (109 pixels per inch, or ppi) and a sharper image than a 1080p panel of the same size (whose pixel density would be just 82ppi). Xp service pack 3 download 32 bit.

Though not as sharp as a 4K UHD (3,840-by-2,160-pixel) monitor like the 27-inch Acer Predator X27, which has a pixel density of 163ppi, the S2719DGF doesn't require a top-end graphics card to keep frame rates at playable levels at its native resolution to the degree that the Predator X27 does. (See our guide to the.) Of course, if you are actually trying to leverage the high refresh rate of the panel to the full, the more graphics power, the better. The port loadout comprises one DisplayPort input, two HDMI inputs (one supporting HDMI 2.0, and one 1.4), one upstream USB 3.0 and four downstream USB 3.0 ports, a headphone jack, and an audio line-out jack. The S2719DGF lacks built-in speakers, under the likely notion that most gamers will use a headset.Physical controls consist of six tiny buttons on the bottom right edge of the panel.

The right-most button is the on/off button, while the other five let you navigate the onscreen display (OSD) menus. Among the main-menu items are Game (which lets you choose among Standard color mode, FPS, RTS, RPG, and three customizable gaming modes), Brightness/Contrast (with sliders for each), Input Source (the choices being DisplayPort, HDMI 1.4, HDMI 2.0, and Auto Select), Display (governing aspect ratio, color format, and sharpness), and Audio (to set the volume for external audio).Color Accuracy and Gaming Chops. I measured the S2719DGF's color accuracy using a colorimeter and software. Particularly for a TN monitor, the S2719DGF showed very good color accuracy.Below is a color fidelity or chromaticity chart, which was generated in standard mode using the Klein K10-A and CalMAN 5. The area within the triangle represents all the colors that can be made by mixing the primary colors red, green, and blue. The circles, representing our measurements, are mostly outside the triangle and fairly evenly spaced, indicating an expanded color gamut. Testing in FPS (first-person shooter) mode produced a very similar chart.Using the same meter and software, I measured the S2719DGF's luminance at 268 nits in standard mode and 290 nits in FPS mode.

I calculated the contrast ratio at 957:1, a tad worse than its 1000:1 rating. The S2719DGF has a native 144Hz refresh rate, and—if you're using the DisplayPort connection—you can overclock that in the OSD to 155Hz. (Curiously, although you need to use DisplayPort to get the highest refresh rates, the monitor only includes USB and HDMI cables.) Gray-to-gray pixel response in fast mode is 1 milliseconds, and input lag—as measured with a Leo Bodnar Lag Tester—came in at a very reasonable 11.2 milliseconds. (This is a bit short of our leader, the, which tallied a 9.5-millisecond input lag.). The S2719DGF performed well with AAA games like Far Cry 5 and, providing smooth gameplay with minimal artifacts. Users with the proper AMD graphics hardware can take advantage of the panel's AMD FreeSync adaptive-sync technology, designed to reduce image tearing.I watched a series of test video clips on the S2719DGF. By and large, colors seemed accurate, though in a few clips they were a bit muted, and I noticed a loss of detail in some bright areas. Though it's fine for casual use, if you plan to watch a lot of video, you will want a general-purpose entertainment monitor such as the, which can handle HDR content and will put you in good stead for both watching videos and gaming.Viewing-angle performance is good for a TN panel.

I did notice some dimming and altered color at extreme angles, but you're unlikely to be bothered by it in typical use.Dell provides a three-year warranty with the S2719DGF, which is in line with what most monitor manufacturers provide, and better than the one-year warranty that comes with the Dell S2719DC and.Impact Where It Counts. The Dell 27 Gaming Monitor (S2719DGF) has some nifty features that will appeal to serious gamers or esports fiends who are concerned more with panel performance than anything else.

The native 144Hz refresh rate and the 1-millisecond pixel response are the key features that will service that group, and the AMD FreeSync support may be of interest if you're among the minority running a Radeon card instead of a GeForce model. Its TN display keeps the product's price down and is the source for the fast pixel response, though it exhibits a subpar contrast ratio and lacks support for HDR.As a dedicated gaming monitor, the S2719DGF works well.

Using Headphones On Dell Laptop

But if you want to watch a lot of video in addition to gaming, we'll reiterate: You'd be better off with a general-purpose entertainment monitor, such as the Editors' Choice-winning Dell 27 USB-C Ultrathin Monitor (S2719DC) mentioned earlier. Here, you'll be paying a premium for features that will complement only part of what you do.
